The Musei Reali of Turin are, at the level of general management, one institution under the Ministero della Cultura. This outstanding complex includes Italy’s first Palazzo Reale with its gardens, the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, the collections and spaces of the Armeria Reale and Biblioteca Reale, the Galleria Sabauda and the Museo di Antichità. In terms of surface area and importance of the heritage preserved and exhibited, dating from Prehistory to the 20th century, this complex is one of Italy’s leading museums and one of the most extensive cultural systems on the international scene. The aim of the book is to illustrate the entire visitor itinerary – which has been made ever more accessible and inclusive – through curators’ texts and evocative images of rooms and masterpieces. They are subdivided by museum section, from the Palazzo Reale to the Armeria Reale and Biblioteca Reale, the Chapel of the Holy Shroud, the Galleria Sabauda, the Museo di Antichità, the Royal Gardens, with their ancient walls and Greenhouses, and the Sale Chiablese, which host temporary exhibitions. It also includes reception, access and service areas that are indispensable to meeting the needs of a wide-ranging and constantly growing public, drawn to the quality of the cultural heritage. Visitors have the opportunity to experience a shared knowledge, well-being and enjoyment in a site that, covering 130,000 square metres, is an authentic museum-city in the heart of Turin, at the centre of Italian and European history.
